The mission at Kammanahalli was a literacy outreach activity for the poor of the village by the community of St. Charles Convent, Paezold Road, Richards Town of yester years. Its beginning was small; the little school was housed in the old chapel in 1958.The official inspection of the school by the department of Primary Education, took place in 1959 on 22 July. The enterprising pioneers were Sr. Helena and Sr. Hyacinth, walking or cycling daily, 3 kilometres on the rough road. Land was purchased for building few class-rooms, the aim was to have classes from First to Fourth Standard. The purpose of the School was to extend facilities also to the education of the children at Chellikere village and Byrathi village. On completion of their primary education the pupils were admitted in Nirmala Higher Primary School, Richards Town; where their older siblings were studying. Family visits were a priority in recruiting pupils to the up-coming School; the next focus was on teaching the tenets of the Catholic Faith to the small Catholic parishioners. The sisters also gave importance to the education of health and hygiene to the families. As time passed by the St. Charles Primary School, Kammanahalli was upgraded to Kannada Higher Primary School in June 1993-1994, and Kannada High School 1996-1997. A new school building was constructed to accommodate the increasing strength. The Blessing was on 20 May, 1994. During this period of time, it was also proposed that a Community of Sisters could reside in the newly constructed school in order to facilitate the functioning of the School and the mission to be established in the vicinity. Sr. Regina Rodrigues was appointed as the Superior and the members of the community were: Sr. Therese D’Costa (Senior), Sr. Cecilia Fernandes, and Sr. Elizabeth Fernandes. As the Community settled here at Kammanahalli, the locality also came under the urban jurisdiction. Later in June 3, 1996, the I.C.S.E. School was introduced by starting LKG and UKG. Blessing of the Foundation stone for the first floor of the existing St. Charles Higher Primary School was on November 21, 1997. A new Convent building was built in 1997 and blessed on April 14, 1997. The upgrading of the education has taken it to great heights.
